Family-owned Missouri trucking company closes after more than 66 years in operation

This week, a Missouri-based trucking company that hauls mail for the United States Postal Service (USPS) closed for good.

On May 2, Rooney Trucking Inc., based out of Polo, Missouri, announced the company’s permanent closure.

After 66 years we want to announce that Rooney Trucking Inc closed its doors on April 30, 2022 at Midnight. We want to thank all of our current and past employees who dedicated their time with us. Thank you and best of luck to all of our employees,” the company said in a brief social media message.

Rooney Trucking was founded in 1955 and hauled USPS mail within a 100 mile radius of Kansas City, Missouri. The company was owned by Rooney family members Patrick and Dixie.

According to the FMCSA’s SAFER website, Rooney Trucking operated 66 power units and employed 37 drivers.

Also on May 2, Rooney Trucking filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy protection in the Western District of Missouri (St. Joseph).
