A woman is dead after a snowy chain reaction crash in Pennsylvania on Monday afternoon.
The accident happened on April 18th at 1:49 p.m. on Interstate 81 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
According to Herald Mail Media, the crash occurred at the six mile marker near the US 40 bridge overpass when three vehicles – an SUV, a semi truck, and a pickup – were stopped in the left southbound lane for slowed traffic. An oncoming semi truck then struck the rear of the stopped pickup, pushing it into the SUV, which was pushed into the back of the stopped tractor trailer.
The driver of the SUV, 30-year-old Brittney Mae Goodwin, was killed in the crash. A dog in the SUV was also injured and taken to a nearby humane society for care. Two other people were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.
Traffic was backed up for six hours as crews worked to investigate the wreck and clear the scene in the snow. The incident and subsequent traffic have since been cleared.
A snow emergency plan remained in effect until 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19th.
