A truck driver has been arrested and a firefighter is in serious but stable condition after an accident in Louisiana on Thursday night.
The accident happened on March 10th at around 9:37 p.m. on Interstate 10 west at Louisiana Avenue.
According to ABC 3, fire crews were at the scene assisting police with a previous crash when a tractor trailer driven by 51-year-old Nathan Martin failed to slow for the emergency crews and struck the front end of a parked fire truck. A firefighter then jumped over the ledge of the overpass to avoid being struck by the semi truck and fell 20 feet onto the concrete below.
The firefighter sustained severe injuries and was treated on scene by fellow firefighters before being transported to a nearby hospital. He is now in serious but stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
Martin has since been booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on multiple charges, including failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, open alcohol container, OWI first offense, and vehicular negligent injuring.
