Garbage truck driver seriously injured after stepping in front of oncoming police car

A man sustained life threatening injuries after stepping out in front of a moving police vehicle in Florida on Friday morning.

The incident happened on July 29th in Pompano Beach, Florida.

According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the driver of the sanitation truck was heading south on North Ocean Boulevard when he stopped in the left turn lane near a construction site. The driver then got out of the truck and stepped out in front of an oncoming police vehicle.

The deputy in the police vehicle was unable to avoid a collision and struck the man, causing him life-threatening injuries. The deputy stopped and helped the man and reported the crash. The man was transported to a nearby hospital. His current condition is not known. The deputy was also hospitalized as a precaution.

The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating. No further information has been released.
