A heavy storm contributed to a pileup crash involving 35 vehicles in Alabama on Thursday.
The crash happened on Thursday morning at around 7:20 a.m. on Interstate 10 eastbound near Highway 90 in Mobile.
According to NBC 15 News, the first crash involved a semi truck and 10 other vehicles. That backup then caused 10 more separate wrecks. A total of 35 vehicles were involved in the incident. All of the crashes are still under investigation.
Eastbound I-10 was shut down and traffic was diverted for at least 4 hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage. Four people were transported to the hospital for treatment. Their current conditions are not known.
The roadway was reopened at about noon on Thursday. No further information has been released, but authorities do say there was a heavy downpour in the area at the time of the crash.
