Man runs straight into path of semi while fleeing scene of wrong-way wreck

Published:

A man is dead after running into the path of an oncoming semi truck in Minnesota over the weekend.

The accident happened just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, February 12th in Burnsville.

According to Southern Minnesota News, 20-year-old Austin John Grosam entered northbound Interstate 35 at Crystal Lake Road and headed south, eventually colliding head-on with an oncoming Lexus. The force of the collision caused Grosam’s vehicle to overturn onto the right shoulder, where it landed on its roof.

Grosam then fled the scene and ran into the southbound lanes of traffic where he was struck by an oncoming semi truck that was unable to avoid him. Two other vehicles then also struck the young man.

Grosam was pronounced dead on scene and the Lexus driver, 27-year-old Hossam Hassan Elsa Elsayed, was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. The semi truck driver and the two other motorists who struck Grosam were not hurt in the incident.

It is still unclear whether or not Grosam was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
