Man severely injured, dogs rescued after RV slams into parked semi truck

A man had to be rescued after being seriously injured in a wreck with a parked tractor trailer in California on Saturday night.

The accident happened on December 10th at around 10:38 p.m. on the 400 block of L Street in Chula Vista, California.

According to CBS 8,  a man was driving an RV along L Street when, for unknown reasons, he veered into the opposite lane and smashed into a semi truck parked on the side of the street. The force of the impact wedged the RV beneath the side of the rig, and even damaged an SUV also parked on the side of the road.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a man and two dogs trapped inside of the RV, and a couple believed to be homeless with their dog standing outside of their damaged SUV. The couple was not seriously injured, but crews spent 40 minutes rescuing the trapped man “not only under the dash of the RV but also under the trailer,” a witness said.

The man and his two dogs were eventually pulled from the wreckage. The dogs were transported to a nearby animal shelter for evaluation, but appeared to be uninjured. The man inside of the RV was transported to a nearby hospital with major traumatic injuries.

The crash is still under investigation. It is unclear if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
