Man thrown off bridge into Whiskey Bay after truck collides with vehicle parked on shoulder

Published:

A man was thrown off a bridge in Louisiana on Friday morning after a semi truck collided with a car stopped on the shoulder.

The accident happened on March 4th near Ramah, Louisiana at around 10:30 a.m.

According to WBRZ, the man was thrown from Atchafalaya Basin Bridge and into Whiskey Bay after a semi truck crashed into a car stopped on the shoulder of the bridge. A person who happened to be fishing in a boat at the time of the wreck was able to throw a rope to the man and get him out of the water as they waited for paramedics to arrive. A video of the scene also shows a man standing on the bridge and throwing a rope down into the water towards the victim.

The person was then transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition. Two other people were also injured, one seriously, reported WAFB.

The eastbound side of the bridge was shut down for around two hours as crews worked to rescue the man, treat the victims, and clear the wreckage. The area has since been reopened.
