‘Massive debris field’ following double semi wreck closes highway overnight

Published:

A highway was shut down overnight as crews worked to clear a trail of debris scattered in a wreck between two semi trucks.

The accident happened on May 12th in Hartford Township, Michigan on Interstate 94.

According to Leader Publications, a semi truck was traveling on I-94 near mile marker 45 when it experienced mechanical issues and pulled off onto the shoulder of the highway. As the trucker was outside of his cab investigating the issue, a second semi truck clipped the rear of the trailer as it passed, ripping open both truck’s trailers and leaving a large trail of debris across the westbound lanes.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office described the scene as a ‘massive debris field.’ Cleanup took multiple hours and closed the highway for an extended period of time. However, neither truck driver was hurt in the incident.

It is not clear if either driver was issued a citation for the accident.
