Medical episode, resulting crash claims life of driver

Published:

A truck driver was found dead in his rig after crashing during an apparent medical episode in New York on Wednesday morning.

The incident happened on November 9th just after 10:30 a.m. at an intersection along the Long Island Expressway in Maspeth, in Queens, New York City.

According to QNS News, police responded to a call of a single vehicle crash to find a tractor trailer had crashed into a street light at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Borden Avenue. The driver was found unconscious with trauma to his body and was rushed to the hospital.

The driver, 50-year-old Stephen Roy Bennington, soon succumbed to his injuries in the hospital and was pronounced dead.

An investigation revealed that Bennington was heading south on Grand Avenue when he lost control of the truck and drove onto a sidewalk before smashing into a cement pillar and a street light. Investigators believe that Bennington suffered a medical incident prior to the crash, which prompted the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
