City leaders in Franklin, New Jersey, voted to ban engine braking this week due to concerns about noise.
On May 10, the Franklin City Council voted 4-1 in favor of an ordinance to forbid engine braking (also known as Jake braking), according to the New Jersey Herald.
The decision to ban Jake braking came after complaints from locals about the noise.
The ordinance will go into effect after signs are placed within the city.
According to reports, penalties for violating the ordinance are a $150 fine for a first offense, $250 for the second offense, and a $500 fine for the third or subsequent offenses. Violators could also face 10 days in jail for a first offense, 20 days in jail for a second offense, and up to six months in jail for a third or subsequent offense.
