The upcoming US trucker convoy previously known as the “Convoy to D.C.” has a new name, a new Facebook page, and what seems to be a new group of supporters.
The planned demonstration against COVID-19 related mandates, organized by truckers Jeremy Johnson and Brian Brase, and now Kris Young, initially had it’s Facebook page taken down for ties to QAnon – a claim that founders say is “simply not true,” – but has now started up a new Facebook page with a new name: “People’s Convoy.”
The new page was created on January 30th, and changed its name from “March for Freedom Convoy to D.C.” to “The People’s Convoy” on February 3rd. The page currently has 58,000 members, down from 94,500 on the original page. However, the group has also been sharing information regarding convoy logistics, fundraising, and other details on alternative social media platforms such as Gab and Telegram.
“Our brothers and sisters of the highway succeeded in opening Canadian’s eyes about the unconstitutional mandates… now it’s time for the citizens of the United States of America to unite and demand restoration of our constitutional rights,” reads a post on the group’s Facebook page made on February 9th.
“On March 4th, 2022, truckers and all freedom loving Americans will begin arriving at Coachella Valley in Indio, California to participate in a rally being held on March 4th and 5th to defeat the unconstitutional mandates,” the post continues.
“In attendance will be the world’s top doctors, representing the truth about the pandemic and related policies, supportive police, firefighters, military personnel, musicians, inspiring journalists, religious leaders, and people from all walks of life… We encourage all to attend this rally and call on American truckers to do what they say can’t be done. FUEL REIMBURSEMENT UPON ARRIVAL FOR ALL ATTENDING THIS EVENT. The convoy will roll out of California following the rally. Convoy details will be forthcoming.”
While organizers have promised a “big press release” sometime this week, it is unclear if that includes information released already this week. Specific supporters of the rally and subsequent convoy have not been confirmed, but observation of the group’s alternative social media channels reveal offers of food, supplies, and other logistical assistance.
“This group and convoy is not crashing the Super Bowl,” the page reads, referencing Wendy Rogers’ recent calls for truckers to disrupt the sporting event.
“Routes will be announced VERY soon. Hang in with us! This is taking an enormous amount of planning! Pack your bags! Prepare! It’s almost showtime!”
