Officer attending to disabled rig hospitalized after four-wheeler smashes into cruiser

A police officer has been hospitalized after being struck by a four wheeler while tending to a disabled semi truck in Nebraska on Sunday morning.

The accident happened on April 3rd in Omaha, Nebraska early on Sunday morning.

According to KETV 7 News, a semi truck was traveling on Interstate 80 near 42nd Street when it ran over some debris in the road, causing the truck’s axle to seize. The truck pulled over onto the shoulder of the interstate and an officer responded to the scene. The officer then blocked two lanes of traffic in an attempt to prevent any accidents with the disabled truck.

At around 3:20 a.m. a motorist, Feryn Wiede, attempted to drive their SUV around the blockade, but ended up striking the back of the police cruiser. The SUV then struck a concrete barrier and barely missed a second police cruiser before skidding across all lanes of traffic and hitting a second concrete barrier.

Wiede was then taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries along with a police officer, who sustained only minor injuries. It is not clear what charges, if any, will be filed as a result of the accident.
