Oklahoma National Guard move in to stabilize semi that slid off the road

Published:

A trucker who ran into trouble on an icy road in Oklahoma got some help from a group of National Guard members on Thursday.

After a semi truck slid off a slick highway in Calera, members of the National Guard’s 1st Squadron, 180th Cavalry Regiment in support of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol rolled in to assist the driver.

Oklahoma National Guard members were able to stabilize the truck to keep it from rolling over until a civilian wrecker could arrive to pull the truck to safety.

At the request of the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, the Oklahoma National Guard is providing Stranded Motorist Assistance Recovery Teams (SMART) Wednesday through Friday to assist drivers amid a major winter storm.

Last night, Oklahoma National Guard Soldiers assisted in clearing a multi-truck accident on I-40 that resulted in a miles-long traffic backup.
