One dead in officer-involved shooting after team driver reported being shot by co-driver

Published:

Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the fatal shooting of a person in Texas on Friday morning following a pursuit of an 18 wheeler that led to a shootout with police.

Shortly before 7 a.m., a 911 caller reported that he had been shot by his co-driver.

The Hardeman County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) was able to verify that the caller was in a moving vehicle on southbound U.S. 287 east of Quanah, Texas.

HCSO located the semi truck still traveling south on U.S. 287 and a 10 mile police pursuit ensued.

According to KFDX/KJTL, the driver of the 18 wheeler exited through the passenger door and opened fire on police with a handgun.

Multiple law enforcement agencies returned fire and the shooter was fatally injured.

The co-driver was airlifted to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

U.S. 287 is closed until further notice.

This is a developing story.
