Over 16,000 CMVs and drivers taken out-of-service during nation’s biggest trucker blitz

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) released the results from this year’s International Roadcheck inspection campaign.

International Roadcheck took place May 17 — 19, 2022, at weigh and inspection stations, on roving patrols, and at temporary inspection sites throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

During the 72 hour Roadcheck effort, officers conducted 59,026 inspections and placed 12,456 commercial motor vehicles and 3,714 commercial motor vehicle drivers out of service.

The CVSA points out that 77.2% of the vehicles and 93.6% of the drivers inspected during Roadcheck did not have out-of-service violations.

The equipment violation focus of Roadcheck 2022 was wheel ends.

According to the CVSA, of the 18,213 total vehicle out-of-service violations, there were 3,374 tire out-of-service violations, accounting for 18.5% of all vehicle out-of-service violations, and there were 784 wheel out-of-service violations, which is 4.3% of all vehicle out-of-service violations. Combined, wheel end (tire and wheel) violations accounted for 22.8% of all out-of-service vehicle violations throughout North America.

During CVSA Roadcheck 2021, more than 40,000 CMV inspections were performed. The CVSA says that a total of 6,710 commercial motor vehicles and 2,080 drivers were placed out of service during Roadcheck – a 16.5% vehicle and 5.3% driver out of service rate.
