Parking garage partially collapses as trucker searches for overnight parking

Published:

A trucker’s search for overnight parking accidentally led to a partial collapse of a parking garage in Virginia on Wednesday night.

The incident happened on April 20th in Lynchburg, Virginia just after 10 p.m. at a parking garage near Three Roads Brewery.

According to WSLS News, the driver entered the parking garage while looking for a place to park overnight while waiting to deliver to Three Roads Brewery in the morning. As the driver made his way across the top deck of the garage, his truck fell through the concrete, causing a partial collapse of the garage.

Luckily, the vehicles parked on the level below the collapse were able to drive off without incident, and only one car was damaged. No one was hurt in the incident.

“This one is not too bad. There’s no full collapse, no threat of anyone being trapped in the debris below,” a member of the fire department said to WFXR News. “That is the biggest concern when something like this happens — a deck collapse with occupants and cars underneath that you would need some search and rescue. This is fortunately not the case.”

The parking garage will be closed for “quite some time” as the city of Lynchburg works to inspect the structure. Officials say that the incident was an accident, and no citations have been issued.
