Passenger killed after BNSF train strikes truck

One person is dead and several others are injured after a train collided with a semi truck in Clarendon Hills, Illinois.

The crash was reported around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, at a railroad crossing at Prospect Avenue in Clarendon Hills.

Authorities say that a Metra BNSF train en route to Chicago hit a semi truck stuck on the tracks.

At least one train passenger was killed. Four others traveling on the train were injured.

Fox32 reports that the truck driver was able to exit the vehicle before it was struck by the train.

Metra train service has been suspended “indefinitely.”

The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation into the crash.
