Police called on drunk lady trucker, who then punched cop in face

A truck driver is facing DUI charges and more after getting into a scuffle with police at a truck stop. 

The altercation happened on Tuesday, July 12th in South Beloit, Illinois at 10:49 p.m. 

According to Beloit Daily News, South Beloit police were called to the Flying J Truck Stop on reports of an intoxicated truck driver. When officers arrived, they discovered Laura Meredik in the cab of her tractor trailer, attempting to leave the truck stop. 

When asked by officers, Meredik refused to get out of her cab, and eventually punched an officer in the face as he tried to remove her. Other officers were then able to pull her out of the truck, and the two fell to the ground. 

Meredik and the punched officer both sustained minor injuries. Meredik is now facing charges of DUI involving a commercial vehicle, aggravated battery to a police officer, resisting arrest and criminal damage to government property.
