POLICE: Truck driver arrested for homicide ran over locksmith he didn’t want to pay

Published:

A truck driver arrested on Wednesday has been accused of running over a locksmith that he did not want to pay, police say.

31-year-old Erick Mejia was arrested for the death of 55-year-old Guillermo Duran on December 29th in El Paso County, Colorado along Interstate 25.

According to Fox 31, Mejia refused to pay Duran for his locksmith services after he opened the lock to his semi truck, and instead ran Duran over with his rig.

Police stopped Mejia in the truck he used in the crime, and say the driver even completed a delivery after the incident prior to being arrested.

“(Mejia) still found it in himself to continue his job, and that to me says a lot,” said Chelsy, Duran’s daughter. “He had no soul, not knowing that he had a family.”

“Erick Mejia robbed him of that privilege and he robbed us of our dad and we just hope that he gets what he deserves,” said Brisais Duran, another daughter.

Majia has been placed in the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office. He faces a felony charge of vehicular homicide.
