Semi jack-knife leads to six-vehicle pile-up

A portion of Interstate 94 in Michigan is shut down for cleanup of a multi-vehicle wreck and fuel spill on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened on September 12th at 12 Mile Road near Fraser, Michigan at around 8 a.m.

According to Macomb Daily, a trucker was heading west on I-94 when he lost control and began to fishtail. As the truck was sliding, it struck another vehicle, which sparked a collision with four other vehicles and a diesel fuel spill.

No one was injured in the wreck, but the six-vehicle crash required two heavy tow trucks, several flatbed tow trucks, and a hazmat cleanup crew to remove the wreckage, debris, and 150 gallons of spilled diesel fuel.

“In the process of the crash, the semi truck spilled over 150 gallons of diesel fuel on the freeway causing a hazmat situation and a large cleanup process,” MSP said in a statement.

As of 2:30 p.m., vehicles were still being directed off of I-94 at Little Mack Avenue. The Interstate is expected to be reopened between 4 and 5 p.m. No further information has been released.
