Seventeen injured in head-on crash involving school bus, dump truck, and car

Authorities in south Charlotte, North Carolina, responded to a serious crash involving a school bus loaded with students on Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, on on Sharon Road in Charlotte.

Authorities say that a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools bus was transporting about 40 students to South Mecklenburg High when the bus became involved in a head-on crash with a dump truck and a car.

Both the bus driver and the dump truck driver were pinned and required extrication by firefighters, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Fifteen students were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Authorities report that two other people were transported, one with serious injuries and one with life-threatening injuries.

It isn’t clear what caused the crash or whether any charges will be filed.
