Teenage girl fatally struck by semi while crossing street

A teenage girl was fatally struck by a semi truck outside of a gas station in South Carolina on Wednesday afternoon. 

The accident happened on September 28th at about 4:10 p.m. on Highway 9 near Potters Road by the Lucky 99 convenience store east of Lancaster. 

According to WSOC TV 9 News, the girl was trying to cross Highway 9 when she was struck. The truck driver was not hurt and an investigation into the incident is still underway. An autopsy of the girl is scheduled for later this week. 

“We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our students in a tragic accident today. We will have additional counselors on-site at Buford High,” the Lancaster County School District said in a statement.

No further information on the incident has been released.
