Tennessee troopers identify two truckers killed in fiery I-40 construction zone crash

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) identified two CMV drivers who lost their lives in a two truck crash in Smith County last week.

THP says that Florida residents Omar Sosa De La Cruz, 30, and Erisbel Cruz Cid, 37, were killed in a crash near Cookeville on Thursday, April 28.

The crash occurred during the morning rush hour on westbound I-40 near mile marker 254 as traffic was slowed in a construction zone.

From an initial THP report: “A commercial vehicle that failed to see the slowed traffic struck a second commercial vehicle in the rear. Two subjects in the first CMV are confirmed deceased.

Sixty-eight year old Iowa resident Gene Lundgren has been identified as the driver of the truck that was rear-ended. Lundgren was not seriously injured.

“Remember the family of those involved in your prayers as well as the responders on scene that worked this accident,” the Smith County Rescue Squad said in a news release.

A driver reported catching the crash on dash cam.
