Tire blowout leads to scattered pineapples

Published:

A crash involving two semi trucks left nearly 40,000 pounds of pineapples scattered across a Texas interstate late on Monday night.

The accident happened on July 25th at 11 p.m. on Interstate 45 near the Montgomery and Walker County line in Texas.

According to Chron News, a tractor trailer hauling pineapples experienced a tire blowout, causing the rig to sway. The trailer then ripped away from the tractor, struck the center divider wall, and rolled into the southbound lanes of I-45.

A second tractor trailer then crashed into the separated trailer, ripping the trailer open and scattering the fruit across the roadway. The second semi truck was severely damaged in the incident and spilled oil all along the interstate. The driver of that second truck was injured in the incident and was transported to the hospital. They are reportedly in stable condition. No other injuries have been reported.

The portion of the interstate was closed until about 6 a.m. the following day as crews worked to clear the wreckage and clean the fuel spill. The crash is still under investigation.
