Tractor trailer rides guardrail after steer-tire blowout

Published:

A truck driver sustained only minor injuries in a major tire blowout that ended in the truck catching fire.

The incident happened on Sunday, October 2nd at around 6 p.m. in Benson, North Carolina.

According to The Johnston County Report, the semi truck was hauling a load of green peppers along Interstate 95 at the 78 mile marker when a right front steer tire blew. The blowout sent the semi truck crashing into the end cap of a highway barrier wall before skidding along the top of it. The semi truck came to a rest blocking both northbound lanes before catching fire.

The trucker suffered only minor injuries in the crash, but traffic was backed up for several hours following the incident.

This was the fourth tractor trailer crash in the same area since Saturday.
