A man is in custody after becoming involved in a shootout with police while attempting to steal a tractor trailer in Georgia on Monday morning.
The incident happened on April 18th in Garden City and began around 8:30 a.m.
According to ABC 22 News, police were called to a location on Commerce Boulevard on reports of a man attempting to steal a semi truck. When police arrived, the man allegedly locked himself inside of the truck with a weapon he had found inside of the cab and refused to leave.
Officers then called for assistance, and a short time later the man inside of the rig began firing at officers. Police then became involved in a standoff with the suspect, but SWAT Team officers were eventually able to take the man into custody. A few officers sustained very minor injuries in the incident.
Once in custody, the man was taken to a nearby hospital for physical and mental evaluation. He sustained only minor injuries in the incident. Details surrounding potential charges against him have not been released. The incident is still under investigation.
