Illinois tractor trailer vs. train crash led to derailment

A major train derailment was reported on Saturday evening as a result of a collision with a tractor trailer.

The incident occurred at 5:42 p.m. on October 8 in Hamilton County, Illinois.

According to Hamilton County Emergency Management Agency – Illinois, a train struck a tractor trailer at Miller Store Road and County Road 1450 N., causing several of the train cars to derail.

Officials say that the derailed train cars were loaded with coal.

When first responders arrived at the scene, the semi truck was on fire.

The truck driver was able to get out of the cab prior to the train strike.

No injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation.
