Trooper’s check on disabled truck leads to discovery of 100 migrants

A trooper discovered around 100 migrants packed into a tractor trailer while checking on a rig stopped on the side of the road. 

The incident happened on Friday, May 6th near Ganado, Texas at around 7:30 a.m.

According to ABC 13 News, a DPS trooper stopped to check on a semi truck that was parked on the side of Highway 59 near County Road 202. As the trooper spoke with the driver, he heard a banging noise from inside of the trailer, prompting him to open the doors. As soon as the trailer door was opened, dozens of people flooded out of the back and fled the scene. Troopers estimate anywhere between 70 and 100 people were inside. 

Seven people were hospitalized for heat and dehydration, and 32 were apprehended after being discovered in nearby brush or cornfields. Approximately 50 people are still unaccounted for. No further information has been released.
