Truck flagged for radiation while attempting delivery to recycling plant

A truck was stopped for hauling potentially radioactive materials at a recycling plant in Houston on Friday.

The incident occurred on November 11th in southeast Houston, Texas.

KHOU 11 News reports that a trucker had picked up a load of metal shavings and was attempting to drop them off at a recycling plant near Kirbyville and Donoho when an alarm for gamma radiation went off.

The recycling plant refused to accept the metal shavings, and the fire department and Houston police were called in. Responders took more readings of the shavings and gamma levels were detected. However, levels were determined to be low enough for the driver to continue transporting the shavings.

It is not clear where the driver was taking the shavings after the load was rejected at the recycling plant.
