Published:

A truck driver and a child were killed in a crash with a van in North Carolina on Thursday morning.

The accident happened on June 9th just before 4 a.m. on Interstate 95 northbound near the Highway 87 exit.

According to ABC 11 News, both vehicles were traveling northbound when the truck driver, 31-year-old Tony Terrell Weeks Jr., failed to slow and overcorrected. The truck then struck a white Dodge van and traveled off the roadway, where it overturned.

Weeks was killed in the crash, along with 2-year-old passenger in the van, Tyler Rasher. A 32-year-old passenger, Andrea Rasher, sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. The driver of the Dodge van was not hurt, reported CBS 17.

The crash forced the closure of the northbound lanes of I-95, but the area was reopened by 9 a.m.
