Trucker charged in plunge down embankment

A truck driver was charged after skidding down an embankment in Virginia on Monday morning. 

The accident happened in Petersburg, Virginia on May 30th at around 9:10 a.m.

According to The Progress-Index news, 39-year-old driver Jeffrey Stanavich was heading south on Interstate 95 near the Washington Street/Wythe Street exit when the truck ran off the highway. Stanavich then crashed through a guardrail and skidded down an embankment, where the truck came to a stop. 

The force of the impact broke open the trailer, spilling some of the contents onto the embankment. Stanavich was not hurt in the incident, but has been charged with failure to maintain a vehicle in a travel lane.

The crash is still under investigation and a reason for the wreck has not been released.
