Trucker claims he was “obligated” to smuggle cocaine after “an accident”

A truck driver caught attempting to smuggle cocaine says that he was “obligated” to transport the contraband after an incident “with some people.”

Truck driver Mauricio Lopez Montes was attempting to cross the World Trade Bridge on November 16th with a load of “surgical kits” when he was pulled for a secondary inspection.

An x-ray scan revealed anomalies inside of the trailer and a K9 alerted to possible contraband in the same area of the trailer the anomalies were spotted. Further inspection revealed 22.97 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $291,760, reported LMT Online.

Montes initially declined to provide a post-arrest statement, but later told investigators that he was “obligated” to transport the cocaine after “an accident with some people.”

Montes was arrested and charged with import and conspire to import cocaine. No further information has been released.
