Trucker dead after smashing through NY restaurant

Published:

A truck driver is dead and two others are injured after a semi truck plowed through a restaurant in New York on Monday morning.

The accident happened on June 20th in Poughkeepsie, New York off of Salt Point Turnpike.

According to Mid Hudson News, the truck crashed through Junior’s Lounge restaurant and collapsed a large portion of the building and connected apartments. The truck driver was killed in the crash and two people inside of the restaurant were injured.

As crews worked to pull the trucker from the wreckage, they heard calls from a woman trapped in the debris on top of the truck. Crews rescued the woman, who lived in the upstairs apartment in the building, without “a scratch on her.”

The reason behind the wreck is still not clear, but police are investigating a string of accidents that occurred between a tractor trailer and several other vehicles on the Salt Point Turnpike just before Junior’s Lounge just minutes before the truck crashed through the building. No further information has been released.
