Trucker flung from rig in crash with tree finally identified

A truck driver has been identified after being killed in a crash with a tree in California last week.

The crash happened at around 4:50 a.m. on July 7th along Highway 101 northbound in Gaviota, California. The driver’s identity was released several days later on Monday, July 11th.

According to KEYT 12, the semi truck veered off the roadway and struck a large tree, causing the driver to be ejected from the cab. The driver died at the scene. California Highway Patrol states that the trucker was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and that the truck was the only vehicle involved in the wreck.

The driver has since been identified as 41-year-old Jesus Tamayo of Compton, California. The cause of the accident is still under investigation and has not yet been determined.
