Trucker identified after being crushed between double trailers

A man has been identified after being crushed to death between two trailers at a trucking facility in Kentucky last week.

The accident happened February 16th at around 8:15 p.m. at the Southeastern Freight Lines Facility at 1040 Fleet Blvd. in Independence, Kentucky. The man’s identity was released this week.

According to The Cincinnati Enquirer, Ricky Markley was in the process of hooking up a dolly to his tractor trailer when the truck with two trailers attached began to roll, trapping Markley between the two trailers and eventually running him over.

Markley’s coworker was able to stop the truck from completely running him over, but was unable to put the truck immediately into reverse because of insufficient air pressure, the incident report states. One of Markley’s coworkers told officers that they were instructed to put the brakes on the truck but not the trailers so that workers can check hoses for leaks. “Ricky must have forgotten to put the brake on the truck,” the unnamed coworker said.

Markley was pronounced dead at the scene. Southeastern Freight Lines has not responded to emails requesting comment.
