Trucker “in a state of shock” after running over woman sleeping in pile of boxes

Published:

A truck driver was “in a state of shock” on Tuesday after unintentionally running over a woman sleeping in a pile of boxes in a parking lot.

The accident happened in the early hours of October 4th in Los Angeles, California.

According to CBS Los Angeles, the woman was sleeping in a pile of boxes in the parking lot of a Vons grocery store at Alvarado Boulevard and Montana Avenue when the tractor trailer entered the lot to make a u-turn. During the u-turn, the truck ran over the pile of boxes and the woman sleeping inside, dragging her around 50 feet.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She is believed to be in her thirties, but it is unclear if she has been identified.

The driver told police he did not realize he had hit something until people at a nearby taco truck flagged him down and told him. Police say the driver was shaken up and had tried to help the woman, but it was too late.

“My perception is that the truck driver was in a state of shock,” LAPD Detective Juan Campos said. “He didn’t wake up to kill anyone. It’s an unfortunate accident.”

The trucker cooperated with police and is not being investigated, as the incident is being treated as an accident.
