Trucker killed in rollover crash, police to investigate for equipment failure

Published:

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is investigating a single vehicle rollover crash that cost a truck driver his life on Monday.

The crash occurred around 11:36 a.m. on Monday, April 4 on McNeil Canyon Road in Douglas County, Washington, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO).

Authorities arrived at the crash site near mile marker 2 to find a semi truck hauling a trailer overturned with the brakes on fire.

“Deputies learned that the semi had been driven downhill on McNeil Canyon Road and entered a corner traveling at a speed too high to successfully negotiate the turn,” DCSO said.

Fifty-seven year old truck driver Daniel Herberer was extricated from the vehicle but did not survive.

DCSO says that the truck was handed over to WSP to determine whether mechanical failure was a factor in the fatal crash.
