A trucker has been honored after saving the life of a wandering toddler on a highway in Michigan last week.
Truck driver Dallas Steiger was named a Highway Angel by the Truckload Carriers Association after pulling over to save a toddler along US 31 in Ludington, Michigan.
According to ABC 12 News, Steiger was heading north on US 31 when he saw the child on the southbound side of the two-lane highway walking very close to moving traffic.
“It was a toddler standing on the side of the road — like, his feet were almost on the side of the white line and he had a little toy lawnmower with him,” Steiger said.
Steiger then pulled over onto the side of the road, ran across all lanes of traffic, got the child off the road and walked him back up his driveway, which was off of the highway. Steiger says the boy’s mother was shaken when she realized that he had wandered outside and nearly into the road. She later contacted Steiger’s company, Quick-Way Inc., to thank Steiger for acting to save her son.
“I would hope that anybody would react just like that,” Steiger said.
