A truck driver will serve 45 years in prison for a crash that killed four children and severely injured their father in an Indiana construction zone back in 2020.

The crash happened on July 9th, 2020 on Interstate 70 in Richmond, Indiana.

According to 13 WTHR News, trucker Corey Robert Winthrow pleaded guilty on Wednesday, June 9th, and his sentence was announced later that day. He had previously been scheduled for a mercy plea hearing in February.

Withrow crashed into the back of the car driven by Aaron Bruce in a construction zone where traffic was flowing. Investigators say that Withrow was driving erratically prior to the crash and entered the construction zone at high speeds. A toxicology test showed multiple drugs in his system at the time of the wreck, and Withrow admitted to driving under the influence of meth.

In the four years prior to the crash, Withrow had multiple drug convictions in his home state of Ohio. The convictions included heroin possession. The FMCSA ordered him off the road on July 17th, 2020.
