Trucker survives plunge off Louisiana I-10 bridge into water below

Published:

Louisiana authorities say that a dive team was required to rescue a truck driver whose vehicle plunged off the Twin Span Bridge on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on July 10 on westbound I-10 towards New Orleans.

According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office (STPSO), “a tanker trailer flipped on the Twin Spans this morning, and the truck pulling it went into the water.”

Police did not provide information on whether any other vehicles were involved or what led to the truck overturning.

Members of the STPSO Marine Division and Dive Team responded and rescued the truck driver, bringing him to land.

Police say that he suffered only minor injuries.

The Dive Team also assisted with recovering the truck from the water.

While the westbound Twin Spans Bridge was closed most of the day on Sunday, STPSO has reported that all lanes have reopened.

“Please join Sheriff Randy Smith in thanking all of the men and women who worked hard all day to get the crash cleared, the truck recovered from the water, and the roadway reopened,” SPTSO said.
