Truck’s failure to stop at stop sign sends school bus, truck into ditch

Published:

Several people sustained minor injuries after a semi truck failed to stop at a stop sign, causing a collision with a school bus in Iowa on Thursday.

The accident happened on October 20th around 7:34 a.m. in Marcus, Iowa.

According to KTIV 4 News, 61-year-old trucker James Nieuwenhuis was heading north on F Avenue when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with 470th Street. The truck then traveled right in front of a moving school bus, causing the bus to run into the side of the trailer. The collision sent both vehicles sliding partially into a ditch northwest of the intersection.

Three students on the bus were checked for minor injuries, and the bus driver was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries. No further information has been released.
