Two big rigs slam into the same viaduct within an hour

Police in Joliet, Illinois, say that two truck drivers were cited after striking the same railroad viaduct on Thursday morning.

The first strike occurred around 5:30 a.m. on May 5 in the downtown Joliet area.

Local news outlets report that Sam Tagoe was driving a semi truck northbound in the right lane on Scott Street when his vehicle struck the viaduct, causing damage to the structure as the trailer tipped to the side.

As police were still on the scene responding to the viaduct strike around 6:30 a.m., a second semi truck driven by Israel Gonzalez was also northbound on Scott Street in the left lane when it struck the viaduct.

The strike caused the trailer to separate from the truck. The trailer struck a light pole before coming to a stop.

No injuries were reported.

Police charged Tagoe and Gonzalez with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
