Two teens dead after merging onto Maryland interstate at high speed, striking semi

Maryland State Police (MSP) are investigating a car vs. semi truck crash that left two teenagers dead and another seriously hurt on Thursday night.

The crash was reported shortly before 9 p.m. on August 25 on northbound I-81 at Route 40 East/Exit 6A in Hagerstown, Maryland.

MSP says that a tractor trailer was northbound on I-81 approaching Exit 6A when a black Lexus sedan with three occupants “merged onto I-81 at a high rate of speed and crashed into the passenger cabin portion of [the] tractor trailer.”

The Lexus driver, Tyler Josenhans, 17, died in the crash.

The right rear passenger in the Lexus, Clayton Knode, 15, also passed away.

Front seat passenger Kannon Shives survived and was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment.

The truck driver wasn’t injured.

MSP troopers from the Hagerstown Barrack responded to the scene along with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation.
