Virginia rest area to close to truck parking at I-95 rest area for several weeks

Published:

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is asking drivers to prepare for the closure of truck parking facilities at a rest area starting in April.

Starting at 7 a.m. on April 4, the Interstate 95 Southbound Ladysmith Safety Rest Area located near mile marker 108 in Caroline County, Virginia, will close to parking for trucks, trailers, buses and other oversize vehicles.

During the time that trucks are not permitted to park, construction will begin to expand the number of parking spaces for trucks and other large commercial vehicles from 20 to 45 spaces.

The truck parking area will temporarily reopen for the Easter holiday weekend, April 15 — 18, and will close again April 19 — 29, according to VDOT.

VDOT reminds drivers that trucks and other commercial vehicles will not be able to access or park along the I-95 shoulder or rest area ramps during construction.

During construction, the rest area’s 55 parking spaces for passenger vehicles will remain open. Restrooms and other amenities will also remain open during construction.

VDOT says that the truck parking lot expansion project will be complete by summer of 2022, weather permitting.
