Washington State Police (WSP) were involved in the fatal shooting of a suspect who carjacked and then rolled a semi truck near Lacey on Friday.
Around 2 p.m. on November 18, a suspect armed with a hammer carjacked a semi truck and then crashed the truck on I-5 near Martin Way, according to KOMO News.
The truck came to a stop resting on its side in a grassy median.
The individual inside the truck refused to exit the cab, leading to a police standoff lasting about 4 hours.
WSP said that the suspect eventually charged at officers with the hammer.
Police opened fire at the suspect, who sustained fatal injuries.
The Region 3 Critical Investigation Team (CIIT) and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office will spearhead the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
I-5 was closed for approximately 16 hours due to the incident.
