WATCH: Cops ‘catch suspects in UPS theft ring red handed’ at Atlanta truck stop

The Atlanta Police Department (APD) recently shared body cam video capturing the moment that suspects were caught actively stealing items from semi trailers at a truck stop.

The video was captured on February 18, 2022, at the PETRO Truck Stop located at 3181 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in Atlanta, Georgia.

Officers responded to a call about suspects actively stealing items from a UPS trailer.

Police were able to locate and detain three suspects.

Investigators say that the suspects were taking items from two UPS trailers parked near one another at the truck stop.

UPS corporate security responded to the scene and confirmed that both trailers belonged to them and indicated that they had been missing for several months, APD said.

“One of the arrestees, identified as Ms. Opal Barrett, owns a trucking company by the name of Black Opal Cargo Solutions Inc. Ms. Barrett had previously functioned as a contract driver for UPS. It is believed that she was able to gain access to the two trailers and parked them on the PETRO property at some point. The other two arrestees identified as Mr. Robert Carter & Mr. Enrico Hacker are acquaintances of Ms. Barrett,” APD said in a news release.

Police say that the trailers were recovered and removed from the property by UPS.

All three suspects were in possession of stolen items at the time of their arrest, police say. All three suspects were booked into the the Fulton County Jail and charged with Entering Auto and Theft by Taking.

APD said that they will continue to work with UPS corporate security on the investigation into the cargo theft ring.

“We are incredibly proud of the work our officers and specialized teams do each day. These men, and women head out into the community, respond to 911 calls, help people in crisis, arrest law breakers, and do everything in their power to make communities safer. Most of the good work they do never makes the headlines. This incident is another example of solid police work and our team in action,” APD said.
