Wet road sends semi skidding into funeral procession

A semi truck accidentally skidded into a police officer escorting a funeral procession in Texas on Thursday morning. 

The accident happened on April 21st in San Antonio, Texas at around 11:35 a.m. at Somerset and Old Somerset Road. 

According to News 4 San Antonio, a Sheriff’s Deputy was riding a motorcycle while escorting a funeral procession when a semi truck noticed the emergency lights and tried to stop to allow the procession to pass. As the trucker braked, the trailer slid on the wet road and struck the deputy, knocking him over. The deputy then skidded along the road and struck a metal guardrail. 

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital with a broken leg, broken ankle, fractured rib, and road rash. He is expected to make a full recovery and is reportedly in ‘good spirits.’

Officials say the wet road caused the incident. It is not clear whether any citations were issued as a result of the crash.
