Woman struck by semi while fleeing police chase

A woman was hurt after fleeing a police chase and running into the path of a moving semi truck in Tennessee on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred on November 1st in West Memphis, Tennessee at 12:16 p.m.

According to News Channel 3, a trooper attempted to stop a stolen Chevy Impala on Interstate 40 at mile marker 281. The car then came to a sudden stop and the driver and passenger got out and ran into the eastbound lanes. The female passenger was soon struck by a semi truck traveling on the highway.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital and was alert, but the details of her condition are not known.

A housekeeper working near the scene of the incident says she saw the female laying on the highway and the male driver drop evidence as he ran in her direction.

“I see the woman lying on the highway. I see the man… I tried to stop him but he ran away… I talked to police and they found a jacket outside the lot and they tried to get the dog with it and tried to catch him,” she said.

The driver has since been taken into custody and is being questioned by police. Neither the driver or passenger have been identified. The truck driver was not hurt in the incident.
