Wreck with semi truck kills firefighters responding to another scene

Published:

Two firefighters were killed in a wreck with a semi truck while heading to the scene of another incident in Wisconsin on Thursday morning.

The accident happened early on January 7th in Mineral Point.

According to ABC 9 News, the Mineral Point fire truck was heading to the scene of another crash on US Highway 151 when it attempted to use an emergency crossover in the median dividing both sides of the highway. As it attempted to use the crossover, a northbound tractor trailer struck the fire truck, causing serious damage to both vehicles.

The two firefighters in the fire truck were killed in the crash, but the truck driver was not hurt.

“We’re still just trying to wrap our heads around it. We’re trying to process this,” said Chief Bryan Marr to the Wisconsin State Journal. “They were just great people. I’m at a loss. We’re going to get through it, but we’re going to need some help with it.”

The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office has not revealed whether or not the truck driver is facing charges for the incident.

No further information on the incident has been released.
